WITH SPECIAL GUEST: Itzel Zagal is a Mexica-Chichimeca Sahumadora from the Aztec dance traditional group of Tepetlixpa, México. The work with the Sahumador was taught to her by the Chief Ernestina, the Senior Sahumadora in Tepetlixpa. The Sahumador is used to open the dance ceremonies, carry the prayers to the divinity, and for protection and cleansing. While living in Anchorage she collaborates with the Aztec Dance dedicated to our Lady of Guadalupe in Anchorage every December 12. The Sahumador works with all 4 elements, is made of earth (clay) and when it is lit it contains fire that in combination with resins and air produces the sacred smoke.
