Description

According to many Native American people, dreams are messages that come from the sacred spirits. Dreamcatchers were thought to have originated with the Ojibwe tribe, also known to many as the Chippewa Indians. To the Ojibwe, they were used as a talisman to ward off nightmares.

  • The Hoop symbolizes Mother Earth. The Hoop’s circular shape represent the Circle and Cycles of Life.
  • The Web resembles the spider’s web, Spider Woman and the web of life. It captured all of the bad dreams while allowing the good dreams to flow down to the person sleeping beneath it through a central feather.
  • The Feathers capture all the good dreams and allow them to gently drift to the sleeper.
  • At its center is another hole. This represents the heart of the web.
  • The Beads that are woven into the web are special charms that represent all the good dreams and visions. Beads are also thought to represent the spider.
